April Outdoor Report
Hi, it’s Westy for Yeager’s with your outdoor report and I’ve got news for you!
The WDFW has released the plant reports for our local lakes so here they are: Cain Lake will get 9,000 catchable Rainbows, Padden will get 20,000, Silver Lake will get 16,ooo, Squalicum Lake will get 1500 in April and June for you Flyfishers, Terrell is getting 2000, Toad Lake is getting 5000, and the Derby Pond at Whatcom Falls Park will get 500 for the Kids, Derby coming up on May 10th.
Speaking of kids, please bring yours to our annual Family Fishing Day on April 12th. It’s a fun event for the whole family but the focus is on kids because we love them and because the future of fishing and other outdoor hobbies will someday be in their hands.
The trucks just keep rolling in to our store with rods, reels, rod and reel combos and all else that goes into spring fishing here is our corner of Washington, so hurry on in while the selection is the best.
Here’s an idea. Even though we have thousands of lures in stock, in recent years we’re seeing more and more of you wanting to tie up your own creations. So, we’ve set aside 20 square feet of space just for you. We’re in the process stocking it with all the parts you need to make your own lures.
Clam diggers, you have some good minus tides beginning on the 31st and running through April 3rd. These are afternoon tides and according to the WA DOH website, Birch Bay State Park beaches are open. However, you should check their website in the morning before you go because conditions can change overnight.
For you Halibut fishers, your season opens on April 3rd and we have the rods, reels and lures for you. You also need a Catch Record and your limit is one fish per day and only six for the season. If you’re going to fish in Washington waters in Puget Sound, you must use barbless hooks or at least hooks that have had the barbs totally flattened.
Hunters, your next big date is the opening of Statewide Spring Turkey season on April 15th. There is also a Youth and Disables Season running from April 1st thru the 15th. We have Turkey calls, and the ammo you need. Remember, you must have a Turkey tag for each turkey you bag.
Perfect days on the water or in the field have begun at Yeager’s for over 100 years, so come and see us on NW Ave in Bellingham, you’ll be glad you did.
Thanks for checking in.
